5 Simple Ways to Display Your Rock, Crystal and Mineral Collection

Whether you collect crystals, minerals or are an avid rock-hounder, you may be looking for ways to display your collections.

Here are 5 simple and affordable ways to get your collections out on display!

1. Glass Jars

Glass jars or clear vases are cheap and easy ways of displaying your rocks or tumbled crystals.  If you have rocks you collected from the outdoors-like from the beach-fill the jar with water to help prevent the rocks from damaging each other or the glass when the jar is picked up and rotated. And the water will help highlight the colors of the rocks if they aren't polished.  This won't work for some crystals, as they are susceptible to water damage.  A quick check online will let you know if your pieces are safe to display this way.

2. Seashells

Do you have a collection of larger sea shells from a vacation? Even if you don't, they can often be purchased from a hobby/craft store.  Use the hollow underside as a dish to place smaller rocks and crystals in.

3. Rock Garden

All those rocks that you found outdoors on your rockhounding adventures? You can keep them outside and still enjoy them! Add them to your landscaping. You can even place them on the top of the soil surrounding your potted plants. I have some larger, quartz clusters that had some damage to the tips.  As they weren't precious to me or even expensive, these have found a home in a landscaping bed in my yard.

4. Water Fountain

Have a water feature outside? Add some of your rocks to it for decor! You can even buy a kit from the hardware store to make your own miniature water fountain for the indoors. Add some small rocks and water safe crystals. This is an easy way to enjoy your pretty rocks every day, not to mention the soothing sounds of the running water.

5. Printers Tray

Have you seen those wooden trays with lots of small, shallow sections? These printers trays make an ideal display for smaller minerals, crystals and rocks. They are easily found on online marketplaces, garage sales, and at antique malls for reasonable prices.  They can be mounted to the wall, our you can make a small side table out of one with a base and a glass or acrylic top.

As you can see, you don't need to have a world-class collection to be worthy of display. Simple and easy solutions exist for all types of rock and crystal lovers to get their collections out on view for all to enjoy!
